A painting crew, Clarkston, Michigan Interiors, cabinets, tall rooms

Everything covered. Everything sanded. Then the paint.

The prep is most of the job. Furniture bagged, trim taped to the line, every surface sanded before primer. The finish shows it, and the customers who have called Ray for twenty years say so below.

Prep is where the job is won.

Every job starts the same way and it looks like nothing is happening. The chandelier gets bagged. The windows get taped to the line. The floor gets papered and the furniture goes under plastic. Then every wall, every door and every run of trim gets sanded before a drop of primer goes on.

It is the slow part, and it is the part the finish depends on. A coat of paint over a surface that was not sanded is a coat of paint that is coming off.

They meticulously covered all areas not being painted, thoroughly sanded all surfaces before primer, and then spray painted the surfaces to look like it came from a cabinet company.

Their attention to detail and the effort put into preparation before painting really impressed me. The final job looks perfect.

Cabinets are the call we get most.

Doors come off. Boxes get primed in place with the floor papered. The finish goes on in coats, not in one heavy pass, and the hardware goes back on last. A kitchen that was oak on Monday reads as a new kitchen by the end of the week, with the same cabinets in it.

They painted kitchen cabinets, 18ft walls, and stained stair railings.

Chapter three

Eighteen feet of wall, one colour, cut clean at the ceiling.

Tall rooms are where a crew shows what it is. Scaffold instead of a ladder on a chair, the drywall corrected before anything blue goes on, and the line at the ceiling cut by hand so it reads as one wall from the floor.

A single room of 1,000 square feet with 18’ ceilings all completed in 4 days.

Painting is where it starts.

Once the crew is in the house the list grows, and it is easier to have one crew do it than to line up four. These are all things customers wrote about in their reviews, in their words below.

  • A wooden front door refinished
  • Custom book shelves built, a television mounted over the fireplace
  • Can lights replaced, a knockdown ceiling patched, a foyer chandelier hung
  • Drywall damage and failing taped corners corrected before paint
  • Stair railings stained, wainscoting and book shelves sprayed

Tono from Gutierrez painting came out to refinish our wooden front door. We are very, very pleased with how it turned out.
